Heritage building on Seikkanthar Street

Heritage building on Seikkanthar Street

Located at the top floor of an early 20th century heritage building on Seikkanthar Street, the two loft apartments were painstakingly renovated over a year to restore the spaces to their original volume and structure. Drop ceilings and interior partitions were removed to reveal wood columns that support Lanarkshire steel beams from Scotland and early slab ceiling with wood joists. Plaster was removed from the perimeter brick walls, while the painted joists and wood columns were sanded down to natural wood. Arched windows that had been filled in with brick were opened up again with reclaimed teak windows and the brick arches exposed above. The interior design aims to be contextual to the original space, while providing modern comfort and updated electrical & plumbing systems. All doors and timber used on the project are from reclaimed teak, and inverters allow for lighting and power to continue during power outage.
